mySafetyAssistant Captures Media Attention

While on a Habitat for Humanity build site on Monday, June 21, 2010, president and CEO of mySafetyAssistant Theo Kowalchuk was interviewed by Shaw TV, CTV, CBC, and CityTV. The interviews showcased the various features and applications of the state-of-the-art web-based Safety Management System.

mySafetyAssistant (mSA) allows volunteers to complete a portion of their safety training online in the comfort of their own home. Every second or third slide includes an interactive slide, which keeps the volunteer engaged in the training. mySafetyAssistant was designed to make sure that anyone that uses mSA will actually absorb the information and will stay safe at work. Aside from online training, mSA acts as your own personal safety professional providing you with records and documents such as safety talks, hazard alerts, and much more.

Habitat for Humanity has implemented mySafetyAssistant as their mandatory safety training. Before any voluntary construction work can start, all volunteers must complete safety training with mySafetyAssistant.

July 2009

This is our 3rd year working with Habitat for Humanity.  July 18 - 24 was the "Blitz Build" in Winnipeg, Manitoba where more than 200 volunteers were on site each day building 11 homes!

Driven by our passion to make sure all volunteers returned home safe and the end of each day, and

provide the folks at Habitat for Humanity with peace of mind, the team at 1 Life Workplace Safety & Health spearheaded the organization of safety practitioners

to monitor the build for the week.  The objective

was to be on the lookout for volunteer safety and compliance with Manitoba workplace safety and health requirements.

To date 1 Life Workplace Safety and Health has provided more than 40 Workplace Safety Orientations to various workgroups and individuals participating in the 2009 build season.

TADD Conference (Teens Against Drunk Driving)

On February 9, 2009 Gord Kowalchuk of 1
Life Workplace Safety and Health attended
the 2009 T.A.D.D. Provincial conference in
Russell, Manitoba as a keynote speaker.
His talk to 125 students and educators
centered around his life experiences growing up in Shoal Lake, MB including working in his dad’s Funeral Home and a single vehicle accident that took the life of one of his hockey team mates. The funeral took place a few days before Gord’s 16th birthday. He explained how the sense of loss impacted his life. Some 30 years later, Gord struggled in telling the story of how he blanked out the day of the funeral to deal with the grief of losing a friend from drunk driving. He told his story of later joining the RCMP, his experiences gained on the roadways and the costs associated with drinking and driving.
